3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade After School Program
Norris Square's After School Age Program is a state-licensed after school program for children in the 3rd 4th and 5th grades. Located at McKinley Elementary School at Orkney and Diamond Streets in North Philadelphia, the program offers children academic assistance through individualized tutoring, computer applications, and cultural trips. We also provide art classes under the supervision of a professional muralist. This program runs from September through June from 3:00pm until 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Free snacks are provided. Our mission is to serve community residents and to maximize the Latino cultural awareness to the children that we serve. We attend a variety of cultural shows and musicals to expose the children to their cultural heritage. We celebrate Three Kings Day and invite the parents and families of the children to join in all the festivities we plan. The food is catered by the parents.
The Norris Square Family Center also offers summer program activities to children already enrolled in the after school program. This is a six-week program which runs for six weeks and is held from 8:30am until 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Activities are planned for the children which include: swimming, visits to the library, gardening projects. The children enjoy weekly trips to the skating rink, movies, art museum, and to Sesame Place. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided to the children free of charge.

Norris Square's Family Center Positive Youth Program
Letter from Catherine Cuadrado introducing Positive Youth Program:
The Positive Youth Sports Program is to develop the students' sports abilities as well as building up their self-esteem, social interactions and confidence.
Our programs consist of basketball life skills development, swimming, softball and boxing. Each program will consist of 15 students due to van capacity.
Basketball Program is for students 12 to 18 years of age and it's an all year round program. We meet every Tuesday, and Thursday at the YMCA at 7:00 P.M. and on Saturday at Girard College during the summer at 10:00 A.M.
Swimming program is for students 10 - 15 years of age and we meet on Friday's from 6: 00 - 8:00.
Swimming is also held at the YMCA.
Boxing is for students ages 12 - 14 and we will meet every Monday and Wednesday 4:30 - 6:30 at Joe Hands Boxing. After boxing we will provide tutoring for the students computer are being supplied by Joe Hands.
Trips will be planned during the year and according to the events.
We will need someone to help support the sports coordinator with transporting and tutoring the students.
Softball will only be held between the months of April thru July.
Swimming is a 10-week program, 10 students at a time and it's a first come first serve basis. Cost is $6.00 a person.
I would also like to have Rap Sessions once a month with a motivational speaker to talk to the students and try to get them thinking about what they would like to do in the future.
Thanks
Catherine Cuadrado

P.S. I would also like to find out how many kids are interested in Hip-Hop-Dancing. Because the YMCA is offering a free dance class on Saturday mornings.
